About Thames Planner

Thames Planner is a free companion for anyone who uses or enjoys the River Thames — from the source at Thames Head in Gloucestershire to the sea. It brings together live conditions, AI-powered trip planning, wildlife identification, fishing and swimming guides, events, and interactive maps in one place.

Who runs this

Hi, I'm Phil. I built Thames Planner because no single source brought together conditions, planning, and wildlife sightings for the river. It's a side project — not a business, no advertising, no data sold. It grows when people use it and tell me what's missing. Thames Planner is not affiliated with the Environment Agency, Port of London Authority, Thames Water, or any other organisation.

Safety & disclaimer

Thames Planner is a planning aid, not a substitute for proper preparation. The Thames is a working river with locks, weirs, tidal sections, commercial traffic, and rapidly changing conditions.

Before any trip:

Check live river conditions on the Environment Agency website
Follow lock keepers' instructions and any posted notices
Check Met Office weather forecasts and warnings
Wear a buoyancy aid for any water activity
Tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back
For tidal sections (below Teddington Lock), check Port of London Authority notices and tide tables

Thames Planner provides general information based on public data. It does not guarantee that any route, activity, or destination is safe at any given time. You are responsible for assessing risk and making your own decisions.

Data & privacy

Thames Planner uses one optional service, gated behind your cookie consent choice:

PostHog — anonymous usage analytics including which features people use and any errors that occur. EU-hosted. No advertising.

If you reject cookies, neither service loads and no tracking occurs. Your trip plans are stored in your browser (localStorage) and optionally in Supabase if you save them — this is functional storage, not analytics.

No data is sold or shared with advertisers. You can change your cookie choice anytime via .
